Analysis of the Text on Menstrual Irregularities

The correct answer is option A. C) compromise the students' school attendance and future development.

1. The Central Argument of the Text

The text establishes a clear cause-and-effect relationship: the lack of access to menstrual hygiene products (menstrual poverty) is not just a health or poverty problem, but a direct barrier to the educational and personal development of adolescent girls. The main argument is that this lack has serious and long-term consequences.

2. The Direct Consequence: Impact on Education

The text explicitly points to educational harm as one of the most significant impacts. Let's highlight the key passages:

  • **"The lack of sanitary pads directly affects the academic performance of these students..."**This sentence establishes a direct link between the lack of the product and school life. * **"...and, as a consequence, restricts the development of their potential in adulthood."**Here, the text projects the problem into the future, showing that the impact is not momentary, but affects the person's life trajectory. * Data from IBGE: The research reveals that 2.88% of girls stopped participating in activities, including "to study", due to menstrual problems. This quantifies the problem, showing that absence from essential activities, such as school, is a measurable fact.

The logic is clear: without a sanitary pad, the student does not feel safe or comfortable going to school, which leads to absences, harms her learning and, consequently, limits her future opportunities.

3. Evaluation of Other Alternatives

  • A) to be a factor that increases rates of teenage pregnancy: Incorrect. The text compare The study compares the rate of absence due to menstrual problems with that of pregnancy, but does not establish a causal relationship between the two.

  • B) to be a direct consequence of the lack of hygiene in schools: Incorrect. The text indicates the cause as being the lack of money to buy the product and the lack of knowledge Regarding the topic, not the hygiene conditions of the school.

  • D) affect only low-income female students who work outside the home: Incorrect. The text mentions that girls stop "studying, doing housework, working, or even playing." This shows that the impact is broad and not limited to those who work.

  • E) To encourage family members to cut spending on education instead of unnecessary expenses: Incorrect. The text states the opposite: the absorbent It's that "it ends up on the list of superfluous household items," not education.

4. Conclusion

The central point of the argument is that menstrual irregularities create a cycle of disadvantage that begins with school absenteeism. By preventing adolescent girls from fully participating in their education, the problem compromises not only their present but also their potential for future development.
