Analysis of the "Game of Thrones" Review

The correct answer is option A. B) Adversative expressions to make reservations about complimentary statements.

1. The Argumentative Strategy: Praise with Reservations

The review's structure is built around a balance: the author acknowledges the series' great qualities but, at the same time, points out significant flaws. To connect these two opposing ideas (praise and criticism), he consistently uses... adversative expressionsThese expressions (such as "but," "however," "nevertheless") serve to introduce an idea that contrasts with or opposes the previous one, creating a... caveat.

2. An Analysis of the Use of Adversative Expressions in the Text

We can clearly identify this feature in several key points:

  1. "Absolutely not, the person speaking to you would be able to argue that the series is perfect." but The flaws that exist here have always existed... * Implicit praise: The series is so good that he wouldn't attack it lightly. * Caveat (introduced by "but"): Despite this, it has flaws.

  2. "The two screenwriters were brilliant in translating the characters [...]"...], but They never quite knew how to do them justice..." * Explicit praise: He acknowledges the brilliance in the initial adaptation. * Caveat (introduced by "but"): It points out the failure to develop these same characters.

  3. "[...] the series couldn't be bad even if it tried, but It remains a shame that [...] have taken away its most precious quality..." * Explicit praise: It affirms the intrinsic and undeniable quality of the series. * Caveat (introduced by "but"): It presents the harshest criticism, regarding the loss of pace and attention to detail in the final season.

3. Evaluation of Other Alternatives

  • A) Marks of impersonality that disguise the expert's opinion: Incorrect. The text is markedly personal, using expressions such as "this one speaking to you" and expressing direct opinions. * C) Interlocution with the reader to corroborate opinions contrary to the adaptation: Incorrect. The interlocution ("this one who speaks to you") is used to position the author's own opinion, which is mostly positive, despite the criticisms. * D) Euphemisms that minimize criticism of the character development: Incorrect. The criticisms are not minimized; they are direct and strong, such as "they never quite knew how to do them justice." * E) Antitheses that contrast the fragility of the script with the beauty of the series' soundtrack: Incorrect. Although there is an opposition of ideas, the linguistic device that structures this opposition throughout the text is not antithesis (a figure of speech with a specific structure), but rather the use of adversative conjunctions.

4. Conclusion

The argumentative structure of the review depends entirely on the use of adversative expressionsThey allow the author to make a balanced assessment.
